Definitive and executive structural and geotechnical design. Construction design

The new PalaRicciardi, developed in Taranto’s Salinella district for the 2026 Mediterranean Games, transforms the former sports complex into a multipurpose venue serving both competitive sport and community life. The design, with structural engineering by iDEAS, establishes a building footprint of approximately 6,250 m², combining a large elliptical sports hall beneath a tensile roof with an adjoining block accommodating changing rooms and support facilities. Designed for approximately 1,500 spectators, the venue accommodates indoor athletics, volleyball and basketball, while its adaptable spaces also support performances, cultural events and community activities. Accessibility and energy efficiency, reflected in the service building’s Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) design, underpin a vision that extends the complex’s role beyond the international event, providing Taranto with a permanent sports facility and contributing to the regeneration of the surrounding neighbourhood.
